Ombre Nail Tutorial

Hello everybody, it's Olivia here from Novalee nails and I'm here today to show you five different ombre looks Ombre can be a little bit of a tricky thing to get your head around. So hopefully sharing my techniques and tips and tricks will help you along the way. This first look is a boomer on braid. So for this one, you will need a pink pure Foundation, a white pure foundation, I'm using Swan and Bonny and an ombre brush and you want to start by placing a bead of that white at the tip of the nail. And as you can see, I just moved it up a little bit with the brush from the bottle. And then I go in with a really nice clean ombre brush to feather it is really important that you feather that white otherwise you will get a harsh line when you then put the pink on top and then going in with a bead of Bonny and just placing that by the cuticle and just sort of dragging it down a little bit to roughly where I want it to be before I then go in again with my ombre brush and feather it down nice and gently. A really great tip when you're using an ombre brush is to clean it as regularly as possible. So I'm cleaning it between each swipe of going like sort of left to right, if that makes sense. So again, that goes in the lamp for a 60second Cure. And then when it comes out, I do wipe over with a little bit of cleanser on a lint free wipe and I just bought over where the pink meets the white, I find that that just gives it a little bit more of a blended look and it gets rid of any sort of bumpy lines. And then another tip to make it look really nice and blended is actually adding a layer of whatever pink you used over the whole nail. And that will just fade out that blended line a little bit and cure that for 60 seconds and then you can go in with your topcoat and cure that for 60 seconds. A nice pink and white ombre is actually really quite easy to achieve with with Pure Build or pure Foundation. And I love how clean this looks. So the next look we're going to be doing is with HONA pigment powders. So for this one, I'm using pink and green and then I'm just using like a fluffy eyeshadow brush, just whatever you've got. And I like to actually apply the pigment powders on to pure foundation. So whether that be your colour pure foundation that you've just laid down, or a layer of clear pure foundation and that's just because your foundation is slightly less tacky than complete base. So I find it works a little bit better to get a nice blend. So as you can see, I put a little bit of powder on my brush and I just keep blending it up to where I want it to be. You can of course blend it as far as you know as far down as you want to. But I'm doing like a nice little watermelon look today. So I blended the pink quite far up and then I went in with the green and did that on top and I actually find going in with a little bit more powder than you think works a little bit better because it prevents your brush brush from getting any of the tackiness from the pure foundation on it and then go in and seal it all with a complete base just to make sure that I'm not wiping it off if I'm putting a design on top and I make a mistake and then added the little dots for the seeds of the watermelon and topcoated and that is the finished look. Okay for this next look we are going to be blending two gels together which can be very scary. I'm using Pinata and Salsa, and this can be a little bit tricky to sort of get the knack of but once you do get the knack of it is actually quite easy. So I just placed on one half of the nail salsa and the other half that Pinata and then going in with my umbrella brush and just sort of doing some nice light feathery strokes down the center where those colours meet. And as you can see I'm cleaning my brush really regularly that is so important because otherwise your brush your brush bristles sort of clumped together and it doesn't work as effectively so you want to make sure that you're working with a really nice clean on by ombre brush as much as possible. So here I'm feathering it down doing a few strokes and then I go in and clean it and then I go back in and further it a little bit more. And as you can see I did do two coats and that's usually enough you can go in with a third if you feel like you need to depends what gel polishes you use in but as you know HONA's gel polish is very pigmented so it works perfectly with two coats. I then just go in and top coat once I've got the desired look and cure that for 60 seconds and that is the finished result. I love how this looks and if you've seen some of those rainbow nails, this is how they do that so it just looks so pretty. And then for this next one, we're using some nice purple so I'm going in and with rodeo and lavender, and I'm using HONA ombre sponges and if you didn't know already, you can actually put the little sponges in the lid of any of your HONA brushes. So before I actually put any colour on my sponge, I dab it in complete base and that just helps prevent any of the colour being soaked too far into the sponge because doing ombre this way can actually use quite a bit of gel

So I find that just putting a little bit of complete base on there first stops the gel from bleeding too far into the sponge. And as you can see here, I'm just going in with a nice light taps just to build up that colour. And this does take either three or four layers depending on what colour you're using. So I each time, take it out of the lamp and just give it a few little taps with some fresh colour on the sponge. Once I've done it twice, I do actually go in and clean my sponge, I just find that that helps. You know get any of that to build a product out and it's gives me a nice sort of clean blend. And I find that it's actually really helpful to use the sides of the brush that don't have any product on as you get towards that blended line, just so you're not adding too much product on and because that will mean that you sort of get a bit more of a harsh line if that makes sense. So that is the finished blend I then go in and topcoat it and I decided to add clear chrome on top of this because I just think it looks really pretty. So I went ahead and did that and then top coated again. I find that when you're doing ombre with gels, whether that be with a sponge or with a brush, it's good to pick colours that sort of complement each other and aren't too far away from each other on the colour wheel just because you'll find it a lot harder to blend them out. So now I'm going in and just doing a another vertical ombre with HONA juicy gels. I'm using the colours peachy and strawberry cooler. And I'm just doing it the same way as I did with the other vertical ombre. But instead of using the ombre brush, I'm actually using the round full cover round top full cup of brush just to show you that it can be done with a different type of brush as well. And these blended actually quite nicely together. Especially using that full coverage round top brush. And I feel like this would be such a lovely look for summer.
