PureBuild Removal - A step by step Tutorial

Hello HONA enthusiasts! Today we're going to be diving into the process of removing a builder gel and gel polish. We'll take you through the necessary steps and best practices to ensure you can safely and effectively remove the product from your nails.

Step 1: Filing the Shiny Surface

Begin by using a 180 file to eliminate all of the shiny surface on the nail plates. This step is crucial to ensure the acetone can penetrate through the layers of the gel. If any glossy surface or top coat remains, the acetone will not be able to effectively dissolve the gel beneath. Be careful not to impact the sidewalls or the cuticle area as you file. It's also a good idea to pull back the sidewalls and lift the cuticle slightly, ensuring every area is properly filed.

If you find your Purebuild gel is a bit bulkier, you can also file down the bulk at this stage. This will make the removal process faster.

Step 2: Using an E File

For those preferring speed, an E file can be used instead of a manual file. A 150 sanding band works well for this process, used to take down a little bit of the bulk and, of course, the shiny surface. It's crucial to be extremely cautious around the surrounding skin, particularly when using an E file. It's easy to slip or scuff the skin, so apply minimal pressure and move slowly and carefully.

Step 3: Soaking the Nails

Once all the shiny surface has been filed off, it's time to soak your nails. We recommend using pre-made foil wraps, cotton pads, and 100% pure acetone. Soak the cotton pad with the acetone, place it on your nail, and then wrap the foil around your finger. Allow this to sit for around 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 4: Removing the Builder Gel

After the soaking period, the builder gel should start to lift away on its own. This is a testament to the buttery formula of our Purebuild gel, which is easy to soak off. Use a sharp square cuticle tool to gently scrape off the remaining product. When doing so, remember to be gentle and careful with the skin surrounding the nail.

Step 5: Final Filing

Following the soak off, use a 240 Grit HONA file to get rid of any remaining product on the nail plate. At this stage, you're not aiming to file the nail plate itself, just to remove any leftover product.

Step 6: Nail Preparation

With all product removed, you can proceed with your normal nail preparation. This includes pushing back the cuticles, removing any non-living tissue on the nail plate, and trimming any hangnails or non-living tissue.

Step 7: Shaping the Nails

Lastly, grab your 240 Grit file again to tidy up the shape of the nails before finishing up.
